Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the application process take?

The average length of time between application and opening a Franchise is 12-16 weeks. However, the timeline is influenced by a variety of factors such as whether a candidate requires a new mobile service vehicle to be built, renovations to a centre site, hiring of staff, and so forth.

What’s the difference between a Mobile Only servicing and Service and Supply Centre?

Mobile Only servicing means a fully equipped mobile service vehicle operating from a residential home base. This operation typically has a single owner/operator. A Service and Supply Centre on the other hand has a trade counter, retail shop, a workshop, a warehouse, an office with multiple vehicles and employs a team of staff members. Our Franchise Team will be able to guide you as to which option is most appropriate for your territory and financial resources.

How much does a Franchise Cost?

The estimated total investment to start a Pirtek Franchise can range from $350,000-$700,000 for a Service and Supply Centre and up to $200,000 for a Mobile Service Only, depending on vehicle utilised. Please note there will be additional ongoing costs incurred while running your business.

What are the ongoing Franchise Fees?

Pirtek’s Franchise Fee is currently set at 2% of Pirtek products purchased each month, with a maximum of 3.0%. In addition, currently 6% of monthly purchases is paid to the Advertising Contributions Fund (ACF) or Marketing Fund, of which a proportion of this is available to the Franchisee for Local Area Marketing.

Do I have to have a formal trade qualification to be eligible?

No, Pirtek acknowledges that some people have years of relevant skills and experience which would make them an excellent candidate for franchising without a formal qualification.

What if I do not have experience in running a business?

Joining the Pirtek network will give you access to Pirtek’s extensive range of work practices and procedures as well as a dedicated team who will support you in running your business.

I have my own bank, do I have to use one of Pirtek’s lending partners?

No, Franchisees can source funding through a provider of their choice.

Where can I open a Pirtek Franchise?

Our Franchise Team will be able to discuss potential territory options.

Do I have to work in the business full time?

We have found that our most successful businesses are owner-operated, and we strongly encourage all Franchisees to play an active role in their business on a full-time basis.

I want to buy an existing Franchise that is for Sale. Do I still need to go through the application process, or can I deal directly with the Vendor?

In the first instance, you will speak to the Franchisee who is selling the Franchise and conduct your own due diligence on the business. If you wish to proceed with the Sale, you will have to complete the application process to be granted final approval by the Franchisor, Pirtek New Zealand Limited.

What is a Prior Disclosure Document?

The disclosure document provides a franchisee candidate key information about the Pirtek franchise system. This document will assist you in conducting your due diligence and to make an informed decision when purchasing a Pirtek Franchise.

What is a Franchise Agreement?

The Franchise Agreement is the contract between the Franchisor and a Franchisee. It sets out each party’s rights and responsibilities in relation to the franchised business, as well as each other.
